This family home in Hong Kong’s picturesque South Bay had to be both practical and elegant for a discerning expectant couple who wanted clean lines and modern sophistication. Formerly an unoriginal basic rental unit, the flat was transformed with new furnishings and fabrics for a refreshing yet intimate space.
A comfortable, contemporary feel was created with neutral earth tones, natural solid wood furniture, sleek metal accents and strong textures. One room served as both the entertainment room and storage room, so specific, adjustable lighting ambiance was required depending on the room’s use. A state-of-the-art surround sound system and gaming equipment were cleverly incorporated into the windowsill, optimizing space.
The kitchen received a much-needed upgrade with a new stainless steel stove, Bauknecht oven and steamer and designer appliances. Creamy stain-resistant stone countertops and sleek, non-slip slate floors completed the transition. A utility room was created in the back to accommodate a washer/dryer and extra bathroom.
Throughout the space, imported, custom-made Hunter Douglas shades ensures natural light as well as privacy when needed. Textured white wallpaper extends the space visually while integrating some personality into the hallway. The master bathroom was enlarged to accommodate extra privacy for the couple, with a luxurious, oversize rain shower system installed alongside brushed aluminum minimalist fixtures and an innovative, multi-function toilet. Additionally, a cosy reading area in the master bedroom was created by the window to optimize natural light and an amazing ocean view.
The result is a home that radiates timeless elegance in a relaxed, comfortable environment for family living.
